Schematic representation of embryonic layers in annual killifish species. Yolk syncytial layer (YSL) is made of cell forming a syncytium and in direct contact with the yolk. On top of this layer migrate and divide the blastomeres, a discrete population of cell composing the epiblast layer. The enveloping layer (EVL) is the layer of cells on top, a thin layer that completely envelope the other two.
