Distinct modules transition from queen-like to worker-like at distinct individual body lengths. This sequential transition restricts the range of mosaic phenotypes that can be produced. The transition point of a module is defined as the individual body length for which the profile of variation (depicted in Fig. 5) reaches a queen-likeness value of 0.5. pro pronotum, meso mesonotum, propo propodeum.
