Complete post-surgery secondary bud development has a vasculature size requirement. A–C Secondary buds that were left to develop with tunic area of 1.5 mm2 did not survive and loss of all activity (and necrosis of tissue) was seen by day 10. D–F Vasculature and tunic with approximate area of 3 mm2 with a single secondary bud did not survive but showed longer activity than experiments having less tissue resources.
